Suckled In By Bedroom Eyes

It's getting on in the evening here - I've been trying unsuccessfully to complete some article edits. Or maybe it's because I have my headphones on and Honeysuckle is filling my every pore. It is the new album from Boston's Bedroom Eyes, and it is a heady, heaving mixture of shoegaze noise without the histrionics, offering transcendental vocals over a cacophany of fuzz and sludge. Elements of songs such as 'Wild Sins' and 'Restless' remain distant, a contemplative insular journey, yet interspersed with serrated distortion, stop/start pedal crunch, black-hole noise sculpted into a cleansing purge that is undeniably beautiful in audacity, expansiveness and scope. Cathartic euphoria through sonorous noise, Honeysuckle is fantastic. You can pick it up through Midnight Werewolf Records here.

A Sunblasted, Dirge-tastic Big Mess

Let's get on the messy dirge train, with Lowell MA's Big Mess, clear those cobwebs out with doom-sludge instrumentals. I can't believe I haven't heard of these guys before - their new 12" You Are My Sunshine (Out through Midnight Werewolf Records) , besides being a great name for an album mining the depths of the riff underworld, is the kind of guitar-heavy brutality with a sleek underbelly that I always love to smash out. And with names like 'Rat's Ass', 'Grow Some Balls Jake Barnes' and 'Pounding Piss Touch', it is like this album was made exclusively with me in mind. Thanks guys - you shouldn't have! (You totally should have). Grab the 12" (in sunburst orange) here.

Sneezing Won't Kill You...Maybe

Boston, you continue to slay me. The "new" band to smash one into the bleachers - Sneeze. Well, their I'm Going To Kill Myself album(out through Midnight Werewolf Records, who also have the rad Kal Marks on their roster) has been around for over a year, but I came across their demo tape that they are taking on tour with them Stateside this month, tracks that will (hopefully) make it onto another LP slated for recording in November - and once again its loud, dissonant indie snot howls, echoing back to the future, the 90s afresh. Only one track breaches the three minute mark (which stands for their album too). It verges on grungy punk, is flagged by reams of flannelette and bile, it's dumb, it rocks.  They have a drawing of a Mogwai on their Facebook page. Seriously ticking all the boxes, guys.

If you are in Allston Massachusetts next Tuesday (October 1), you really should head to O'Brien's Pub to see Sneeze unload alongside Psychic Blood, Yuppies (both of which I will be posting about shortly) and Luau. You can pick up one of these bad boys while you're there...if any are left that is.

And here is the LP (which you can buy here)...
