Walking On These Angry Seas

Melbourne punk survivalists Angry Seas were up here in Brisbane launching their self-titled 7" last week. Which is a shame, because I missed them - if only I had listened to the release (or anything of theirs) beforehand I would have made the journey into Fat Louie's for the show (they were playing alongside Grinning Loons AKA an incognito Spinning Rooms - on the same night Nation Blue & Batpiss were also playing - what a Melbourne-centric night...) Four tracks of tearing shit up, Angry Seas plays like an Aussie blue collar VB swilling Bronx, especially the jostling juxtaposition of melodicism and raucous riffs. Yet another Mikey Young production too - the guy has the Midas touch. If you like your punk rock in a pub, screaming and spitting and leaving you with cuts, bruises and a shit-eating grin, get this 7" ASAP.

Tenzenmen Terrorists Take 1 (Brisbane Roars)

Shaun Tenzenmen keeps whipping out the releases, and here are two more to sink your teeth into - and they are both from Brisbane!


Little Shadow are offering what is their first release in Possessions, a six-tracker that welds melodicism, math-oriented compositions and some angular grit. Evoking the likes of Cursive and The Nation Blue in their penchant for honest storytelling (courtesy of To The North's Cam Gillard, dialling down the throat tearing for more melodic vocals) and brutal musicianship, Little Shadow are attempting to temper their hardcore edges to achieve something new. There is a lot of promise here.

A band that is NOT tempering anything is IDYLLS. A co-operative split label release with their own Monolith Records and tenzenmen, Farewell All Joy intensities in ten cities, man! 20 minutes of bristling fury. These guys are monster musicians too, so to hear such vitriol and despair rip through the ether into you headspace is incredibly confronting - and exciting.

Both bands have great shows lined up. IDYLLS will be launching Farewell All Joy this Friday night at Fat Louies alongside Marathon, Jurassic Penguin (NZ), Capeweather and Wallow, followed by a support slot to Nikko at the Waiting Room Saturday June 23. Little Shadow will be supporting Closure In Moscow on Thursday 28th June at X & Y.

Undead Apes' Mega Launch Of Death, This Friday!

Brisbane's finest purveyors snotty punk Undead Apes have had their second LP Killed By Deaf out for what seems like forever (it's only been a few months), but due to many reasons (chief amongst them, laziness) there has been no official launch. Sure, they killed January with four consecutive Thursdays at the Waiting Room, but that was for shits and giggles. The real deal comes on Friday night as they flood Fat Louie's (yes, they are still doing gigs! And dirty chicken wings!) with simian zombies. Also important are the supports, this time filled by SM faves Tiny Migrants, as well as Last Chaos and Shelby Cobra. And enough with the lame excuses (or flat out refusals, like the douches from last Friday's Sonic Masala show), cos this sucka be free, yo! Don't know why I'm speaking like this. Must be that this will be KILLER! So get there, for the love of your children (real, potential, illegitimate - just think of the children!)

Oh, and by Killed By Deaf here - it is loud and killer, so it speaks the truth. And all very quickly, so it's pretty painless death - quick and easy.
