Southern Sickness Won't Heal

If you want hardcore noise insanity, look no further than Antipodean Sickness, the brutally base LP from Sydney miscreants Tanned Christ. Featuring members of Making, Narrow Lands and Totally Unicorn, their almost math-like precision and propensity for raw yet rambunctious metal destruction looks both incongruous and also makes a lot of sense. You can hear a bit of Queensland contemporaries Idylls here, but even moreso The Locust - yet the articulate musicianship that meshes the madness into a heaving cataclysmic whole is somehow more than such a comparison. Faces, minds, membranes melt; hearts pound like frightened birds against cracking ribcages; pressure builds; blood boils. This album is made out of red sweat and black bile - but who says that abject aggression can't put a smile on your cadaverous dial?

Antipodean Sickness is out through Grindhead Records now - you can get it in red, clear or marble wax. Tanned Christ are about to embark on a national tour - see the following furious dates below...

Purest Evil Instilled In The TTTDC

Here are a couple of take-no-prisoners releases from balltearing Melbourne labels We Empty Rooms (DEAD/Fire Witch) and Bro Fidelity (Hotel Wrecking City Traders/Fire Witch) that have been slaying eardrums by the thousands...

Melbourne's TTTDC (what does it all mean? I have no idea. Best guesses in the comments section!) is a voodoo doll spiked incessantly with downtuned guitars, stream-of-consciousness drumming and surprisingly melodic vocals that don't sound like fucking Birds of Tokyo or some other such toe scum. They are so big they already have a Greatest Hits record. Well that's what this LP is called anyway. Greatest Hits is both indulgent (wailing metal guitar solos!) and degraded (deafening feedback!), all recorded at the Tote one rainy Monday. No better way to start the week, recording your soon-to-be Best Of. A manifesto of festering ideas, these doom trippers are as happy scorching your soul as they are crooning your hole. Brutally sexy. (Seriously, tell me what TTTDC is, mindfuckers!)

Then there is the speed-fuelled bile vat from the aptly titled acidic giants Pure Evil Trio. Cognitive Dissonance is also an apt title for this EP, a screeching maelstrom of intellectual gnashing of teeth, all done with the kind of gum-bleeding ferocity that thrashes all competitors into an early grave.  All so abrasively unlovable, right? And yet there are moments of enjoyment here too - mutated punk anthems lurk under the blood-drenched howls of mindless discontent. Hold it up to the light and watch this opaque disease glow. Wollongong's answer to The Locust?  Listen and forever wonder where your mind went.

Sargent Lets Le Butcherettes Begin

We brought you exciting news about Sargent House stallions Hella yesterday (you missed it? WHA? Well get over here and sort that shit out, STAT!) Another Sargent House alum that are going great guns is Le Butcherettes, the Mexican trio that rip apart stages all across Northern America. They released a new LP Sin Sin Sin a fortnight ago through Rodriguez Lopez Productions, the label of Mars Volta's ridiculously hard working Omar Rodriguez Lopez. The band have a very unique stage set too - lead singer and basically "the band" Teri Gender Bender wears a bloody apron and uses props such as feather dusters, artificial blood, flour, eggs and pigs' heads (?) in a throwback to 50s era women's roles in the home, and to highlight women's emancipation from said roles...whatever, the chick fucking kills, and the bloody apron is amazing in the context of this roaring punk. Having enlisted ex-Locust drummer Gabe Serbian, and garnering adulation from the likes of Jack White and Karen O, they are preparing to take on the world, starting with supports shows for the Deftones.

Sin Sin Sin is a pretty slick album. Not the biggest fan of this track off it, 'I'm Getting Sick Of You' - a bit too Death Weather-lite via Juliette Lewis for my taste - not that either reference is bad, they are excellent, just that there are better examples of their wares elsewhere on the album. Keep an eye out on this trio for sure...

I've Got Bogies All Over Me!

Not sure if the Top Gun reference is warranted - most definitely wont be appreciated - but its been said now, cant be unsaid...

Rhode Islanders Arab On Radar are back together, making music, touring and will be painting London black sometime next year. Arab on Radar have been given much of the kudos for reviving no-wave on the cusp of the 2000's, influencing a myriad of tops noise acts such as Lightning Bolt and The Locust. They have some cracker albums, incredibly abrasive and depraved song titles and lyrics, and twisted and deliberately obtuse noise structures, so its exciting to see what these guys will come up with almost a decade on since they walked off into the desert...
