Death Vally, Comanechi and Divorce

Dalston's riotous punk-metal duo Comanechi and Glasgow's Divorce have just finished a tour together. Gutted I've been a bit slow on this one 'cos I'm sure that the combination of that much screaming punk madness would have ripped the Hoxton Bar and Grill a new arsehole. They also fitted in an Oxford date courtesy of the excellent Poor Girl Noise, although I'm sure the PGN lads can handle Comanechi and Divorce with bevvies to spare.

To top the tour off the bands have released a split 10", purchase here, and in a lovely break in convention the 10" includes a track recorded by both bands together, a version of Sonic Youth's legendary Death Vally 69, or Dv69 as Comanechi and Divorce have entitled it. Its one to grate your collective spines, for sure.

I don't want to get well

The excellent Poor Girl Noise of Oxford are putting on some more shows this month, its been a while guys! A band that is gracing the stellar lineup that immediately jumped off the page at me was the Brighton duo (PGN always did have thing for duos) Illness. Influenced by Pavement and Hella according to their MySpace - not exactly what it says on the tin, but this noise/math duo are worth your time. Nope and Shield Your Eyes complete the line-up, more on them soon. Sweet poster too.

It was early on a Sunday morning at ATP - A Nightmare Before Christmas 2009. After downing a fair few, at 4am we decided to cook a curry. It was during the consumption of this drunkenly delicious breakfast treat that we decided to actually do something about the music we talk about all the time.

So we started a blog – and Sonic Masala was born. Now into its seventh year, the blog has spread out to call both Australia and the UK its home (and the rest of the world), and has expanded to include gigs, festivals and a record label under its black umbrella. Come on, eat the noize.

If an mp3 is up here, it's because we have been talking about it, and think the whole world needs to know more. It's there to give you a little taste. Then, if you like, check out the band live and spend all your hard earned cash on their records. If we've posted up an mp3 of your stuff and you're not too keen on the idea, let us know and we'll happily take it down pronto.
