Hypnotized By The Dream Police

Sacred Bones have announced the final two releases of 2014, and one of them is new - yet familiar. Mark Perro and Nick Chiericozzi, two of the founders of The Men, have a new project in the form of Dream Police. Which is a great name when you consider the cover art for the Cheap Trick album of the same name... Where The Men have left behind their hardcore boots to head into a more familiar rock bent, Dream Police brings synth and a bit of hair rock to the mix, if the title track of their upcoming album is anything to go by. It's like distilling Moon Duo, LCD Soundsystem and ZZ Top into a crusty blender. I need to hear the rest of this album for sure - but for now I'm perplexed, amused, and more than a little interested. Friday cover up - Shipping out the drunk girls

Regular readers of SM by now expect the Friday Cover Up to proved that tongue in take to end their hard working week and this Friday is no different. But this week rather than trawl though my record collection looking for something the perfect cover landed in my lap, thanks to Ani via Austin blog Covert Curiosity out on Piccadilly Records. Friday cover up - No.4

Its time for Friday cover fun again and this week includes another tenuous link. The new LCD Soundsystem LP, This is Happening, drops 17th May and so I thought an LCD cover would be appropriate (see? well tenuous!) but its an awesome Joy Division cover so what the hell.

It was early on a Sunday morning at ATP - A Nightmare Before Christmas 2009. After downing a fair few, at 4am we decided to cook a curry. It was during the consumption of this drunkenly delicious breakfast treat that we decided to actually do something about the music we talk about all the time.

So we started a blog – and Sonic Masala was born. Now into its seventh year, the blog has spread out to call both Australia and the UK its home (and the rest of the world), and has expanded to include gigs, festivals and a record label under its black umbrella. Come on, eat the noize.

If an mp3 is up here, it's because we have been talking about it, and think the whole world needs to know more. It's there to give you a little taste. Then, if you like, check out the band live and spend all your hard earned cash on their records. If we've posted up an mp3 of your stuff and you're not too keen on the idea, let us know and we'll happily take it down pronto.
