Fantasies Come To Earthly Life

We have posted about the bedroom noodlings of Massachusetts act The Fantasies since their inception, but it seems that they are becoming more of a cohesive (and live) whole. The Fantasies are now a 4 piece, with Brett on guitar/vocals/tape loops, James on leads, Zoe on bass, Ruvi on drums. The general consensus is that they are blatantly stealing from every band every created, mashing it together with a giant mortar and pestle, and the vapours left behind becomes their sonic blueprint. With the spirit of Michael Jackson providing over it all... Seriously, there is nothing serious to take from Earth Life, the band's 3 track EP, but then again that is precisely the point - which makes this a fun repeated listen to put on whilst you are losing your shit in the most positive way.

Fantasising About The Boom Bang

Two of my fave finds of 2010 have exciting releases of note.

First up we have The Fantasies, whose unpredictable tracks of varies pastiches of genres and sexy art work have been flooding the musical floodplains for the past few months. Now they have hit us with 'Stuck In My World', a track solely devoted to making you lose your mind.

The Boom Bang have just released their new album, World War Fun, on Nice People Records, and they have a tasty single off it that reminds one and all that they only have one speed - GO! They will pummel you into submission if needs be. And so they should.

How The Fantasies Stole, Then Saved, Christmas - Not Direct To DVD...

We posted about The Fantasies last month (check it out here), and when speaking to them then they mentioned they had a single coming out. Well, said single has landed - How The Fantasies Stole Christmas!! The radness of this two-song release is Russian doll like in its intricacies and infinitesimal joys - the Seuss references in both cover art and song titles, the cover arts fascinations with 50s era pulp sci-fi, and the tracks themselves, that seems to further augment the parallel universe these guys are obviously from. Both quintessentially instrumentals, both 'How The Fantasies Stole Christmas!!' and 'How The Fantasies Saved Christmas!!' are absurd pastiches - the first being slightly 60s carolling with loops and an r'n'b vibe, the second an electronic menagerie that buzzes along at a metronomic pace. Very different from Meet The Fantasies - and all the more interesting. I cant wait to hear what they serve up to us next (apparently it'll be like The Beatles covering the Pixies!)

Meet The Fantasies

Ready for some parallel universe jams, where dapper 50s socialites do the electric boogaloo to psych pop? I know, me too! The Fantasies have just released this 7" double A-side, Tick Tock/Midnight Boogie (AKA Meet The Fantasies), and from all intents and purposes seem destined to usurp all other throwback competitors by subverting their own sound...or something. Its certainly an interesting listen, almost at the opposite end of the spectrum to Shimmering Stars, another new act that are embracing their grandparents' teen record collection, but are more earnest in their sound. I love both, and so will you!
