Not much needs to be said here. It's Friday, and I keep getting excited that there is another goddamn Tortoise album on the horizon. Admittedly I have to wait until January to get it, but if 'Gesceap' is anything to go by, The Catastrophist is going to be cataclysmic. The 7 minute track is a percolating, bucolic latticework of glowing instrumentation, a slowburn brew that moves towards a cathartic maelstrom that is nevertheless studied and muted - an excursion into the Chicago genius' subconscious. Add to that that Thrill Jockey are reissuing every single Tortoise album - in coloured vinyl no less - and my Christmas is DONE. Pre-order The Catastrophist in turquoise vinyl here.
