Remember John Candy? Quickly, Remember...

To celebrate the release of new album The Quickening on 26th September (through Rock Action), Scottish pop experimentalists Remember Remember are delighted to announce a number of live shows for this month, with London being on the agenda tonight at the Servant Jazz Quarters in Dalston.

Recorded in early 2011 at Chem 19 Studios, Scotland against a background of tumultuous global events, The Quickening sees Remember Remember return with the same seven piece group heard on last year’s RR Scorpii EP, yet further embellished on by the nylon string guitar talents of R.M. Hubbert and a full string quartet. Whilst still a playful, colourful record, a lot of the toys have gone and the music dives deeper into darker, psychedelic territories hinted at on RR Scorpii: pagan waltzes, apocalyptic Egyptian surf and Middle Eastern modes mingle with sombre pianos and bleak string interludes, concluding with a duo of songs – ‘One Happier’ and ‘John Candy’ – both bittersweet and stratospheric, creating an ending made of pure, bright light.


Remember Remember‘s musical journey, which began as one guy on stage with a loopstation and a bag of toys, now finds them here with The Quickening, a powerful and exciting listen that promises live experiences just as thrilling. Pre-order the album here.

Remember Remember...TO Get Good

Ah, the bizarre British tradition of Guy Fawkes Day has come around again, where the nation celebrates a moment in history where an ambiguous terrorist's plot to blow up the Houses of Parliament are foiled...by blowing shit up. Its strange, bewildering, and yet an exciting time. And what better way to celebrate this date than to post a newish track by Scottish ambient post rock masters Remember Remember, whose album RR Scorpii came out last week on Rock Action Records. Ive sat on it til now, so enjoy - play this while you drunkenly go blow some shit up, in slow motion, and hopefully come away with the strong urge to purchase this release here - and all your limbs still fully attached.

Rock Action's Mum Gets The Stan Winston's

Mogwai's label Rock Action Records have some of the most interesting UK acts - Part Chimp, Errors, and Desalvo number in their small ranks. Glaswegians Remember Remember are an act that sit apart from the musical stylings of their brethren, but due to their ebullient aural histrionics seem a snug fit here. Their influences are many and varied - from more obvious namechecks such as minimalist scorers Phillip Glass, Yann Tiersen and Max Richter, to Icelandic sorcerers Mum and Sigur Ros, to more sonically abrasive artists such as Nirvana and Sonic Youth (?), therefore RR's sonic palette is always busy and never dull. They are preparing to launch RR Scorpii at us soon, but in the meantime check out this short film that highlights a track from last year's enticing debut, 'Imagining Things'. It seems almost cartoonish, but as this is from Mogwai's stable, prepare for something decidedly left of centre to lurk in the shadows. Letting Mogwai Out of the Box

Mogwai are my favourite band hands down, so I am wetting myself as they are set to release their first ever live CD(Special Moves)/DVD (Burning) with a showing of the film at the Scala next Thursday, April 4th. This is huge. What is even huger is that accompanying the film - which features footage from the band's three-night residency Brooklyn’s Music Hall of Williamsburg in April 2009 - are DJ sets by members of Fuck Buttons and Errors, and a live set from Scots Remember Remember! All for a tenner! Hells yeah!

Some might be shaking their heads here, as Government Commissions was also a live album. However they were BBC sessions, whereas Special Moves has been recorded specifically with release in mind. Expect some absolute gems that chart the band's entire career - 'Like Herod' to 'I'm Jim Morrison, I'm Dead'. Start salivating...now.
