Rain's Comin Down On Plant Magic Man

The Plant Magic Man "juggernaut" (well, he IS bombarding my inbox!) continues, with the introduction to last year's Rainy Season, which follows his penchant for dreamy experimental DIY pop. I know that as a serial process this is an interesting way to bring out your stuff, but Im really waiting for the collation of all recordings into a cohesive whole, whihc is what the album Dogson promises to be - and then I will be happy. Still since the other ultra creative blog hermit Mickey Mickey Rourke has been quiet of late, I do get a little excited when these little presents drop in...

Nonstop Magic With Human Plants

Plant Magic Man doesnt know how to quit, does he? He has the next "re-released" release up on his Bandcamp, Daniel Kaufman's Album (Irate Panda Records are surreptitiously putting these suckers out). Im loving the serialisation tone that these staggered releases are taking on - but am also anxious for them to reach their logical conclusion so that I can finally get my hands on a collected works physical copy! Still, Man (whoever the hell you are) - you're all right...

Herbivorous Alchemy Is Back To The Future

Last week's Hits From the Box saw us champion the lo-fi efforts of Plant Magic Man and his Julie Kirgo's Album record, less than ten minutes of echoing, archaic folk tape alchemy (see here - scroll down to the bottom). Supposedly recorded in 2008, it was an oddly effective release. Its less than a week then that I find another release dropped into the inbox, titled King's Parade - its more of the same, although with more fully formed songs on offer. I am still none the wiser as to who Plant Magic Man is - if someone can tell me more, please do so!

King's Parade is out on Irate Panda Boss, who put out the last release and are putting out the next four (?) before releasing Dogson: Recordings 2008-2010, which is music sampled from these releases...

I dont know, its doing my head in! But the music is good, so thats all for now...

It was early on a Sunday morning at ATP - A Nightmare Before Christmas 2009. After downing a fair few, at 4am we decided to cook a curry. It was during the consumption of this drunkenly delicious breakfast treat that we decided to actually do something about the music we talk about all the time.

So we started a blog – and Sonic Masala was born. Now into its seventh year, the blog has spread out to call both Australia and the UK its home (and the rest of the world), and has expanded to include gigs, festivals and a record label under its black umbrella. Come on, eat the noize.

If an mp3 is up here, it's because we have been talking about it, and think the whole world needs to know more. It's there to give you a little taste. Then, if you like, check out the band live and spend all your hard earned cash on their records. If we've posted up an mp3 of your stuff and you're not too keen on the idea, let us know and we'll happily take it down pronto.
