Hey Girl, Buffalo Killers Get It Right

Ohio rockers Buffalo Killers are prepping their fourth full-length effort Dig. Sow. Love. Grow. Last year's 3 was decent, but it didn't hit me like previous effort Let It Ride, nor their performance at the Breeders' ATP in 2009. Yet the two tracks offered thus far, 'Hey Girl' and 'Get It', sounds more meaty, blues, vintage and altogether Buffalo Killers. The band has always espoused virtues from late '60s psychedelia, blues, Americana, garage rock and the folk-rock sounds that rolled out of Laurel Canyon in the early '70s, and especially on 'Get It' it sounds like such a concentrated mojo is bound to work for them.

Dig. Sow. Love. Grow. is out August 7 through Alive Naturalsound Records. There will be 300 Limited Edition Orange Vinyl LPs exclusive to mailorders through Bomp! - well worth investing in.

Sultan of $

Mark Sultan is a demi god of the modern garage movement, both under his own name and as the 'BBQ' in King Khan & BBQ Show. His myriad releases on esteemed labels such as Sub Pop, Bomp!, Norton and In The Red have been all of at least good quality, and has spawned a great number of worshippers, some of which include Bradford Cox, Jon Spencer and the boys of Black Lips - the latter formed with him to create messed up shit as The Almighty Defenders (I really oughta dredge that up for y'all sometime...)

So Sultan is pretty big business...well, he fucking well ought to be! Therefore when the penny drops on the grapevine that he is to release new material, the hairs stand up on the back of my love handles. $ is being put out on Last Gang Records, and under his own name Sultan has managed to not only divulge in his love of doo-wop (which has now taken on credence in other, hipper circles), but in psych, country and noise. This is an album to be sought out, which you can do on Monday November 8th.

Until then, feast your eyes and ears on first cut 'Status'. Welcome to the weekend...

It was early on a Sunday morning at ATP - A Nightmare Before Christmas 2009. After downing a fair few, at 4am we decided to cook a curry. It was during the consumption of this drunkenly delicious breakfast treat that we decided to actually do something about the music we talk about all the time.

So we started a blog – and Sonic Masala was born. Now into its seventh year, the blog has spread out to call both Australia and the UK its home (and the rest of the world), and has expanded to include gigs, festivals and a record label under its black umbrella. Come on, eat the noize.

If an mp3 is up here, it's because we have been talking about it, and think the whole world needs to know more. It's there to give you a little taste. Then, if you like, check out the band live and spend all your hard earned cash on their records.
