Sonic Youth Cut Vocals, Rock Out Moody Frrancophile Style
Its pretty obvious that when it comes to Planet Masala, the general opinion is that Sonic Youth can do no wrong. Even their more ill-conceived works are held up with esteem. So yeah, we are pretty biased there. Then there is our love of instrumental rock - yesterday's Mogwai post is a pretty good indicator of our standpoint. Nevertheless, SY's latest musical foray - creating the score for French thriller Simon Werner A Disparu (Lights Out is the English title) is an amazing feat in dark moody instrumental fare that everyone should own. EVERYONE. It is brooding, jagged, raw, and atmospheric - and is incessantly driven by Steve Shelley's motorik drumming. In short, its incredible.

Check out the trailer for the film while you're at it...
"As if the French needed help being moody, Sonic Youth is writing and recording the (francophone)soundtrack for a new French film. Both the songs and the movie trailer are thumbs up, in my book. See and hear at Sonic Masala."
